Pandung Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Shan South Plateau, it is widely distributed in Shan State South as in Lawksawk township, Molohein and the Ashemyin–Anaukmyin ranges, in Ye-ngan township, Padongaing and Satthe, base of Hsinmango Hill, in Pindaya township, NW of Panzit, west of Kyankhinpyaung, Shwepahto area and in Hopong township in the Méné Taung range. Myint Lwin Thein (in Burmese National Committee, IGCP 1977) first named this unit after Pandung Hill (1869 m) in Ye-ngan township, Shan State South. [Original Publication: Barber, A. Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone. The Pandung Fm consists of thin- to medium-bedded purplish, buff, white, pinkish orthoquartzite with minor amounts of whitish, tuffaceous sandstone with no fossils. The type section is 392 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It unconformably overlies the Chaung Magyi Gr of Precambrian age.
Upper contact
It underlies the Myetye Fm
Regional extent
It is correlated with the Sibaing Orthoquartzite Fm of Patheingyi township, Mandalay region and the lower part of the Pangyun Fm in Shan State North.

Depositional setting
As for the Sibaing Orthoquartzite Fm, the orthoquartzites of the Fm represents a shallow marine, barrier beach environment.
